# Organ model credits

The four organs in the hero (heart, brain, lungs, kidney) are drawn from 3D models published under
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
Each file here is a modified copy. The modifications are listed per model. The site shows the models one at a time,
as a shaded render in twin blue and as coloured ASCII glyphs. No other licence terms apply (no NonCommercial, NoDerivatives or ShareAlike model is used).

Files: `heart.glb`, `brain.glb`, `lungs.glb`, `kidney.glb` (about 1.2 MB together).
The site credit line is in `src/page/Close.tsx`.

## Heart: `heart.glb`

- Title: Realistic Human Heart
- Author: neshallads (https://sketchfab.com/neshallads). Uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by user Prototyperspective, 2023-11-20.
- Source: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:3D_model_of_a_human_heart.stl
  (original: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/realistic-human-heart-3f8072336ce94d18b3d0d055a1ece089)
- Licence: CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
- Changes: converted STL to glTF, welded vertices, recomputed normals, centred and scaled to a unit sphere,
recoloured and rendered as a shaded model and as ASCII. No decimation, no smoothing. 22,562 triangles.

## Brain: `brain.glb`

- Title: Detailed Human Brain Model (3D), NIH 3D entry 3DPX-021161
- Author: "Created by: Johnson J" on the NIH 3D entry. The entry also lists "Produced By: Schmidt's", source data
"National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease", and its description cites Hyes, A.G. (2018), "Production of
3D Printed Scale Models from Microscope Volume Datasets", 1(1):002, (c) Hyes, A.G. 2017.
- Source: https://3d.nih.gov/entries/3DPX-021161
- Licence: CC BY, as linked on the NIH 3D entry (Creative Commons Attribution), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
- Changes: removed materials and vertex colours, baked node transforms, merged 4 meshes and welded them into one
closed surface, 10 passes of Taubin smoothing, decimated from about 377,700 to 37,981 triangles, rebuilt smooth
normals, centred and rescaled, rotated, recoloured, compressed with meshopt (EXT_meshopt_compression).
- Provenance note: the CC BY 4.0 label is explicit on the NIH 3D page, but the uploader is a third party and the
original creator could not be traced (the file looks like a Sketchfab-style export). If this is a concern, a
cleaner source is "Brain AS.stl" by AgnieszkaStarostecka on Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 4.0,
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brain_AS.stl). Its folds are much shallower, so it reads weaker as ASCII.

## Lungs: `lungs.glb`

- Title: Human Reference Atlas 3D Reference Organs (male): Lung v1.4, Trachea v1.1 and Main Bronchus v1.1
- Authors: Kristen Browne and Heidi Schlehlein, Human Reference Atlas (HuBMAP), built from the NLM Visible Human Male dataset.
- Source: https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/lung-male/v1.4/ ,
  https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/trachea-male/v1.1/ ,
  https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/main-bronchus-male/v1.1/
- Licence: CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
- Changes: merged the three parts into one mesh, removed the internal bronchial tree and the hilum-side parts,
cut and capped the trachea, decimated to 34,449 triangles, recentred, rescaled, recomputed normals,
  compressed with meshopt.

## Kidney: `kidney.glb`

- Title: Human kidney with ureter, renal artery and renal vein stubs, assembled from the Human Reference Atlas 3D
Reference Library (Kidney, Male, Right v1.3; Ureter, Male, Right v1.2; Blood Vasculature, Male v1.3)
- Authors: Kristen Browne and Heidi Schlehlein, Human Reference Atlas (HuBMAP), built from the U.S. National
Library of Medicine Visible Human Male.
- Source: https://humanatlas.io/3d-reference-library (objects:
  https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/kidney-male-right/v1.3/ ,
  https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/ureter-male-right/v1.2/ ,
  https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/blood-vasculature-male/v1.3/)
- Licence: CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
- Changes: selected and assembled the parts (kidney, ureter, renal artery and vein only), clipped, smoothed,
decimated to 20,661 triangles, pushed the ureter and vessels out about 2 mm so they stay visible as ASCII,
recentred and rescaled. The vessels have a stylised, lathe-like look that is not anatomical.
